The Rules of Rebellion Review

The Rules of Rebellion by Amity Hope

1. Skinny dip (her idea)
2. Stargaze (his idea)
3. Prank someone (her idea)
4. Go on a date (his idea)
Leo Zimmerman has had a crush on his curvy friend Kylie Jenkins since forever, so when he discovers the girl with a flair for candy making has a newfound plan to rebel against her overbearing parents, he’s determined to be the one to help her carry it out. Who better than himself to show her the ropes of letting loose?
Sure, taking her to her first high school party, helping her sneak out of the house, or watching a sunset together isn’t exactly a hardship, but much harder is masking his feelings the more time they spend together. And when he suggests adding “a first date” to Kylie’s plan and she accepts…suddenly all his dreams seem to be coming true.
But Leo’s got a secret that could change everything between them, and it’s only a matter of time before it comes to the surface.

First thoughts

I had already read "The Rules of Persuasion" by Amity Hope so I thought I'd read this one. Entangles teen books are always so good and have you hooked right from the start. This one was no different, I was wanting to read from start to finish in one day but, I slowed it down so I could have time to analyze what I was reading. So here's my honest review of this book.

Review

The first thing I liked is that the authour brought in/ incorporated the characters from her other book into this one. I took me a little while to realize that but once I did, I liked it. The other thing I liked was the fact that the emotion felt so real to me. And you know I really appreciate an authour who can create characters who connect to the readers.

The one part I didn't like is there could've been more swoon-worthy scenes and the character could've been described a bit more, but that's just my opinion.

Overall this is a great book to read for all the feels and some swoons. I would recommend this book to someone whos looking for a light read.

First Thoughts

I was so excited to read this book because I enjoyed the last book so much. When I started this book I was automatically hooked (mostly because I had to finish it in 2 days) It picked up right where it left off, it didn't have you wondering what happened. So here's my honest review of this book.

Review

So first of, you need to know that this book is an emotional roller coaster. Shannon has you laughing, crying, swooning, and trying to fight the reality of something. Now I did have to finish this book in 2 days, so I was quite rushed but I tried to soak up everything I could. And I have to say it was just an all-around great read.

This book did have a couple of slow parts, but what book doesn't? I wouldn't call it a slow book. I was pleasantly surprised, this book surpassed all of my expectations, I love a book that can make you feel everything the characters are feeling. Shannon went above and beyond that, she had me thinking about the sad parts and trying to wrap my head around the whole thing, as I was there experiencing it with the characters.

Overall this book is one I would defiantly recommend, and I would totally read it again. It has all the ups and downs that don't go unnoticed with me and are greatly appreciated.

Bittersweet Wreckage Review

Bittersweet Wreckage by Erin Richards

Her dad wasn't supposed to die.

He wasn't supposed to have a second family, and her mom wasn't supposed to slip into a prescription drug haze.

And she definitely wasn't supposed to kiss her new "half-brother."

Ivy Lynwood has spent her life under the oppressive thumb of her abusive father. When the impossible happens, and he's found dead in a boat fire, Ivy thinks her life may finally be turning around.

But her newfound freedom is short-lived; just as she and her mother start to move on, they learn that Ivy's father had a second family--whose mother also died in the boat fire.

Child Services asks Ivy's mother to take in the orphaned teenagers, and her life spirals even further out of control. Her mother disappears into a drugged la-la land, leaving Ivy to clean up the pieces... while clues of her mother's guilt in the fire stack up.

And for the first time, Ivy falls in love... with the son of her father's dead mistress. Even though Ivy and Jesse are unrelated, he's off limits when he moves in with the Lynwoods. Ivy knows she'll never have the normal family she dreamed of--but can she manage to turn the wreck of her life into any family at all?

First Thoughts

I was so excited to read this book, after I received it from the author, it sounded like a book I could get lost in. (In a good way) I thought it was going to be a book that I would feel like I was the main character, one I could cry with, one I could smile with, and one I could swoon with. However it didn't really turn out that way. This is my honest review of this book.

Review

So the book doesn't have the most interesting start, its just a bit of a back story, it is useful to know for the rest of the book though. The father, I feel like his character could be a bit more developed, or portrayed better. Other than that I loved the way Ivy and her mother's relationship was portrayed, and how Ivy explained, or commentated her mothers "drugged la-la land."

SPOILET ALERT: Now the other big problem I had was with Jesse, and Ivy's relationship. At some points it did feel really weird, I don't know if it was the way it was written, or what other characters had said, but it made me feel weird for reading it.

Overall I liked this book, I probably wouldn't read it again but that's just me. Before you read this book you should know there is one "intimate" scene that has some describing parts.

All The Broken Pieces Review

All The Broken Pieces by Cindi Madsen

What if your life wasn’t your own?

Liv comes out of a coma with no memory of her past and two distinct, warring voices inside her head. Nothing, not even her reflection, seems familiar.

As she stumbles through her junior year, the voices get louder, insisting she pleases the popular group while simultaneously despising them.

But when Liv starts hanging around with Spencer, whose own mysterious past also has him on the fringe, life feels complete for the first time in, well, as long as she can remember.

Liv knows the details of the car accident that put her in the coma, but as the voices invade her dreams, and her dreams start feeling like memories, she and Spencer seek out answers.

Yet the deeper they dig, the fewer things make sense. Can Liv rebuild the pieces of her broken past, when it means questioning not just who she is, but what she is?

First Thoughts

When I first started reading this I was so confused, but as it continued I started to understand it more. This is the kind of book you have to take everything in with, for example, you have to analyze the cover of the book, you have to make assumptions while you read it, and you have to really think about what you already know and what you're learning. So here's my honest review of this book.

Review

This book starts off very slow, for about the first four chapters. This is because it's the same three characters, having the same arguments/problems. The book doesn't really start up until she gets to school, then you get to read about all the anxiety she goes through and the challenges.

And then after that, its the same fight between the two voices in her head. Not until Spencer comes along does the book start to get interesting, because then it's a different battle she's fighting, she's fighting with Spencer and his moods. Which at times can be annoying and funny.

Overall this book has some good attributes, the relationship Spencer and Liv develop is nice, and the relationship she tries to maintain with her parents. But this book is quite slow, the thing that kept me going was I HAD to figure out if I was right about the "mystery."

Bad Bloods November Rain Review

Bad Bloods November Rain by Shannon A. Thompson

Seventeen-year-old Serena isn’t human. She is a bad blood, and in the city of Vendona, bad bloods are executed.

In the last moments, before she faces imminent death, a prison guard aids her escape and sparks a revolt. Back on the streets determined to destroy her kind, Serena is spared by a fellow bad blood named Daniel. His past tragedies are as equally mysterious as her connection to them.

Unbeknownst to the two, this connection is the key to winning the election for bad bloods’ rights to be seen as human again. But Serena is the only one who can secure Vendona’s vote.

Now, Daniel must unite with her before all hope is lost and bad bloods are eradicated, even if it means exposing secrets worse than death itself. United or not, a city will fight, rain will fall, and all will be threatened by star-crossed love and political corruption.

First Thoughts

I was surprised I even picked this book to read, it's not the kind I would usually read. This book starts off very slow, and at some points is all over the place, so you have to do some thinking as you read. But if you look past that, or can get over that, it's a really good read that leaves you wanting more (because it leaves you on a cliffhanger) So here is my honest review of this book.

Review

Yes, this book is slow, but the plot is so good and the characters are well developed. Once you get to the middle, you get a bit more of the action, and you're yelling at the characters, to tell them what to do. When you get there you're easily hooked, and you have the yearning to find out what happens next.

Just as you get into the book, it ends, ON A CLIFFHANGER. That bugged me, but now that I look at it, it was kind of a good idea, because now you want/have to read the next book to find out what happens next. The other downside to the cliffhanger is that it stops right in the middle of the climax.

There also aren't very many swoon-worthy moments in this book, but there are supposed to be some in the next book.

Overall this book has the action and suspense that gets us all rilled up, and makes us keep reading, and will make a great next book to read.

My Bad Boy Neighbor Review

My Bad Boy Neighbor by Desirae Clark.

A girl, a boy, and a bet.

Good girl Astrid Ella Bailey, the Oreo-loving school nerd of Evergreen High, has anxiety issues. Like any other nerd, she preferred to bury her nose in her books all day and avoid attention like the plague. She never got into trouble, save for that one time a kid ruined a photo of her best friend… a very dear friend she just lost in a tragic accident.

Bad boy Kai Asher, her high school’s head playboy, is trouble incarnate. Intense, rough, and sexy, he’s the one who makes all the girls swoon. One flirtatious wink and their heart’s bend like clay dough. Oh, the shame when they all break like fragile china.

A bet is made, tempers flare up, and punches are thrown.

And when the good girl crashes into the bad boy — quite literally, screeching tires and smoking hoods included — the school went wild with intrigue. Astrid was thrown into the spotlight, and extra attention is never good for an almost antisocial nerd.

What was the bet? And why did Kai suddenly appear — in all his half-naked glory — at Astrid’s next door window one day? Can she resist his insane sexual innuendos, or will she lose her sanity? Or what’s left of it, anyway.

First Thoughts

I was looking through kindle unlimited books when this one caught my eye. It sounded intriguing, so I thought I'd give it a try. It was a waste of time, and the book annoyed me soo much, and you're about to find out why. Here is my honest review of this book.

Review

The good thing about this book is that the writing style isn't one of the things that bothered me. The plot was also good, but other than that I don't know what else was good.

The characters in this book were a little underdeveloped, sometimes you didn't understand why they did the things they did.

SPOILER ALERT: The bet was obviously about her, how did she not figure it out sooner, how did her friend not figure it out sooner, and seriously she runs away from her problems?? Why? Without even talking to her boyfriend and asking if he was in on it, she just ups and runs away.

There was also a lot of sexist comments and really cliche stuff, that alone made me want to stop reading and forget about it, but for some reason, I continued. I should've stopped.

I wanted so bad to like this book because it sounded do good, but it just wasn't. It was so predictable and had a terrible ending, if you were planning on reading this, please don't.
